An OEM default password is the known password that is supplied by a new equipment manufacturer for a device that is password-protected. Devices include printers, routers, print servers, servers, BIOS, firmware, appliances, etc. Manufacturers of such equipment usually use a single password, such as "admin" or "root" or "password" on all equipment they manufacture in the expectation that users will change the default password during initial setup. Also, the default password is restored when the device is reset. Other systems include a canonical account name, such as "guest" or "default" that is accessed by a default password that is widely known.
